 Dmoz, the most popular web site of directories, did something wrong. One of its editors tried to extort 5,000$ to a famous blogger to avoid the elimination of his site from Dmoz directory. Blogger refused and his web site disappeared from Dmoz.
In Dmoz users can find the most popular directory of web sites, so it gained a great reputation. Every webmaster at least tried to insert his web site into it, and also SEO advise to enroll your site in this in the directory.
Shoemaker did not pay, so his site have been removed, as the editor threatened. We knowDmoz don't accept payment to insert web sites into its directory, so we are allowed to talk about a real extortion. At the moment no Dmoz spokesman comments what happened, but extortioner's behavior is danger for every webmaster.
